Aleph One Support

Most PC card users have the idea that it has to be configured the same way as a real PC, rather than looking at the differences that make the PC card so usable. So first we need to list the advantages of the PC card.

Advantages

  1. Can change quickly between different C: drives.
  2. Each C: drive can have a different version of OS loaded.
  3. The remainder of the configurations can be optimised for the OS or a program.
  4. Each OS on the C: can be optimised for a particular program.
  5. Each configuration can also have a separate drive D:
  6. No limitation on the number of configurations that can be set.
  7. Any sensitive OS and program setup can be backed up quickly and easily.
Aleph One Support recommend all PC card users to upgrade to PCPro 3.xx. Unlike earlier !PC software where you needed individual copies of !PC to run separate configurations, PCPro3.xx can run multiple configurations from the same !PC installation.

Put one PC OS on to one drive C:. For example do not install DOS and Windows95 or 98 on the same C: drive. Use separate drive C: for each OS, thus DOS on one drive and Windows95 on another.

Optimise an OS for a particular use. For example if you just want to use Microsoft Word then don't load the hole of Microsoft Office and remove any unwanted items within Windows that is not required.

Don't be frightened to make a configuration for a specific purpose. The only limitations should be you hard disc space/size and memory that can be allocated to the PC card.
