| PCPro3 upgrades server - email interface
|
> PC Card Home > Upgrades > email.html
If you have registered your copy of
PCPro3 then you can download upgrades. Normally this is done using the Web interface, but some users may need to use the email interface directly. This is documented here.
Registering
This server allows for registered users of Aleph One software to request
upgrades to be sent to them by email. Note that unless you have registered -
this server will not be able to send out upgrades!
You can register either with the on-line registration form on our website:
http://www.aleph1.co.uk/Upgrades/register.html or via the 'register'
command described below.
The web form is generally preferred as it does syntax and registration
code checking for you.
Getting upgrades via the Web
Upgrades are most easily retrieved via our Web pages at
Upgrades/upgrades.html
Go there and fill in the on-line forms as directed. This will generate
appropriate emails like those detailed below, saving you from the nitty
gritty.
Getting upgrades by Email
You can talk to the server by sending email to with
any number of these commands in the message body:
Note that all commands, product and file names are CASE_SENSITIVE.
- help
-
Sends back the current edition of this help message.
-
You should follow this with your registration code, as shown on the
confirmatory email you got from the server, a space, and then the
password, also as shown on the confirmatory email, e.g.
'login abc1234-jqx PASS'.
Regardless of which email address you send your request from, all
upgrades will be sent to your registered email address. You can
only use the 'list' and 'send' commands once you have logged in.
- list
-
If you send this command on its own, it will send back a list of all
the files on the server you are licensed to access. If you follow
it with a product name, e.g. 'PCPro3_release', it sends back only the
files for that product which you may access.
- send
-
This command should be followed with a product name, and a filename,
and will send back a particular file from the server by email, e.g.
'send PCPro3_release upgrade231.zip'. Note that due to the server's
limited internet bandwidth, files requests are queued up and sent out
every hour, on the hour.
- personal
-
This command sends all the personal data that Aleph One hold on you, as
required by the Data Protection Act-- this will also include the products
which you are licensed to access upgrades for.
- register
-
This command adds an entry to the registered users database. It is
normally only used by filling in the web-form for registration on our
website (see above). This is the recommended method, as the format is
strict:
X-REGISTER:Yourname:Registrationcode:Password:email:address:phone:
This must all be on one line.
You make up the password. The email is the one you want upgrades
delivered to (they will not be delivered to any other). The address and
phone number fields are optional, but likely to be helpful should
we need to contact you. A registration will not be accepted if the code
is not valid or if the code is already registered.
If you have any problems with the server, or your personal details need
changing, please mail .
